Lay Director's Greetings

As of this date, all the teams for the Spring Walks have begun their training and God is doing a mighty work in these servants. We need to continue to lift these teams up in prayer as well as the pilgrims that are preparing for these Walks. As a community, we also need to support our Walks through our presence at Candlelight and Closing, by sending Agape and food, and by volunteering for the behind the scenes service. Let's remember what Ephesians 6:18 tells us, "Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." I look forward to serving with you this year!

Decolores,
Courtney Swain,
Community Lay Director

and plans are in the works to begin KAIROS there. Maury is located on NC 903 between Snow Hill and Winterville.

If you are interested in participating in this ministry contact:

Bob Clinkscales 252-426-7720/email: clinkscales@inteliport
OR
Garry Freeman 910-455-9747/email: garryf1@earthlink.net

Please remember:
Lots of homemade chocolate chip cookies
are needed for this ministry!

KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY WORKS ON ANOTHER EXPANSION

There are meetings being held with the administration at the women's facility in Troy, NC.  Please keep these efforts in prayer.  Expansion is expected to include this facility in 2008.

From Team Selection and Training

Have you worked behind the scenes as an agape angel? in the prayer chapel? assisted in preparing and serving those delicious meals? transported pilgrims or luggage? served late night ice cream on Saturday night? or perhaps you stayed late and cleaned up on Saturday after Candlelight. If you have served in any way behind the scenes, you are a true and faithful progressive servant that may be ready to serve on a Conference Room Team on a future Walk. We are anxious to hear from you and to add your name to willing Conference Room servants. If you are interested in serving on a Conference Room Team please let us know by e-mailing Beau Simcoe at ncbeau@bellsouth.net or calling 910-520-4268.

News from Luggage and Transportation Committee

First of all, thanks to all of you who have volunteered to help with luggage and transportation for previous walks.

We are currently seeking volunteers to transport the pilgrims for the up coming walks both this fall and next spring.  We are also looking for willing volunteers to help with the luggage.

If your church owns a bus or a van and you can use it to transport the pilgrims during the walks, or if you are interested in helping with loading and unloading the luggage, please call Ernie Block at 910-617-7744 or 910-798-4057 or email us at eblock@ec.rr.com.

Thanks,
Ernie and Judy Block

Satisfied that IOU yet?

If you left an IOU for something you purchased at the Book Table at any time in the past and have not yet satisfied it, please do so as soon as possible.

Message from the Treasurer

As treasurer, I would like the community to know that our Scholarship Fund is healthy and available for pilgrims who need help with their registration costs. Just write "Scholarship Requested" on the application form in lieu of a check for pre-registration.

We also have a Matching Gifts Fund created by several generous donors with unmatched seed money of over $1500 as of August 2007.  To add to this fund, specify "To Matching Gifts" with your donation.  Until depleted, unspecified donations (excluding fees and regular collections) are doubled by Matching Gifts.

In Christ,
Tom Prather

Agape Needs You

We need willing servants to serve in Agape. Please don't wait for a phone call. You call us. Don't miss out on this extraordinary blessing. Call Joe and/or Barbara Hodges today at 910-794-4935 or email at Hodgesfamily4Him@aol.com.

Emmaus Volunteers

Are you interested in helping with a walk?  Well, the "wonders of technology" are here to help you.  Just access this website, click on the application button in the main menu and select the online volunteer sheet.  Fill this out and submit.  This will be sent to the Emmaus Registrar and entered into the Community Registration System to be included in reports that are used to staff various Walk to Emmaus work parties.

MAIL CALL

Sponsors are reminded to monitor Pilgrim mail and mark the 12 family and close friend letters with an "F" on the front. Mail beyond 12 pieces will be given to the sponsors at closing and should be given to the Pilgrims AFTER closing, on the way home or when they arrive at home. Community members who want to convey good wishes to friends going on a Walk might want to consider using snail mail and having the Pilgrim's Fourth Day begin with your many messages.

DIRECTIONS
to Send Off
beginning at 6:30 pm
at Faith Harbor UMC

New Location

From the North:

Take Highway 17 South to Holly Ridge.  Turn Left onto Highway 50. There is a stoplight at this intersection.  Follow Highway 50 about 3.6 - 3.7 miles. Pass Food Lion, Waves (most notable because of the LARGE alligator at the door), and Heritage Square.  After Heritage Square is Treasure Coast Landing and a miniature golf course.  Continue 1/4 mile.  The church is on the right.

From the South:

Take Highway 17 North through Hampstead.  Turn right on Highway 210.  There is a stoplight and Exxon station, and a Port City Java/Subway at the intersection.  This is the route to the Christian Family Living Center.  Follow Highway 210 about 2.9 miles to the stop sign.  Turn right onto Highways 210/50.  Proceed about .5 miles.  You will pass Food Lion,  Waves (most notable because of the LARGE alligator at the door), and Heritage Square.  After Heritage Square is Treasure Coast Landing and a miniature golf course.  Continue 1/4 mile.  The church is on the right.

to Candlelight

beginning at 8:00 pm at
Wesleyan Chapel UMC

From the South (Wilmington):

Take Hwy 17 North.  Wesleyan Chapel UMC is across from Poplar Grove Plantation, about 2 miles beyond Porter's Neck Road.  It's on the left.  The traffic flow is much better now that most of the construction is completed.  You may now turn into the church from either direction.  Upon leaving you must turn right regardless of whether you intended to go North or South on 17.  If you are going North there is a place to make a U-turn just a few hundred yards from the church.

From the North (Jacksonville):
Take Hwy 17 South.  Wesleyan Chapel UMC is on the right, across from Poplar Grove Plantation within the construction area.  See directions above for leaving.

Remember not to park in the first few spaces closest to the highway where your car might be seen by the Pilgrims arriving from the North.  We want the church to appear unoccupied when they arrive.

to Closing
beginning at 5:00pm
at First UMC, Sneads Ferry

From the south (Wilmington):
Take route 17 north about 40 miles. Go 4 miles past Holly Ridge to route 172. Turn right on to route 172. Go about 8 miles. You will see the church on the left before you get to the bridge. The church's phone number is 910-327-4011. Rev. Ira Smith's phone number is 910-327-4321 (parsonage).

From the north (Jacksonville)
Take route 17 south 14 miles. Turn left on route 210 at Dixon Middle School. Go to the stoplight. Turn left on route 172. Go 3-1/2 miles to the church which is on the left before you get to the bridge.

to Follow-Up Meetings

7:30 PM at Wesley UMC, Wilmington

The Church is located at the intersection of College (NC 132) and Peachtree, just one block North of the intersection of NC 132 and US 76 (Oleander).  The meetings are held in the Adult Education Center which shares the parking lot with the Sanctuary Building.
